BAD NEWS: Pure Luck closed. GOOD NEWS: They’re re-opening for 3 days!

This, my friends, was my last supper at Pure Luck.  Well…at least I thought it was.  That is until Quarrygirl revealed on her blog today that they would be open 3 additional nights starting today!  I might just try to hit up the joint all three nights.  Maybe I will stock up on Tortas and freeze them.

I have so many fond memories at that place so it truly breaks my heart that they are closing.  <<I just spent a good 3 minutes between typing that last sentence and this one playing a mental montage of all the fun Pure Luck times I’ve had.>>  One of my favorite things to do with guests from out of town was bring them out for carnitas burritos and follow up our lovely meal with a visit to Scoops across the street for some vegan gelato.  It was the ultimate foodie power combo.  To check out an awesome adios to Pure Luck see this post on Cute and Delicious.

For my last Pure Luck meal ever (or so I thought,) I wanted to stray from my usual order.  So I ordered the Baja Fish Tacos with a side of potato pals.  Believe it or not, this Pure Luck fanatic had never had the potato pals!

The pals were fluffy and rich at the same time.  They totally lived up to the hype.  The fish tacos were amazing as always.

For my real last Pure Luck meal ever, I am going to order my usual: Kristen’s Carnitas wrap with sweet potato fries, please.  Oh, and some fried pickles and a Mexicoke to start.  Get your butt to Pure Luck this weekend so you too can indulge one last time!  If you do, I also recommend by other stand-by–the beet salad.  I have many shirts with beet juice stains to prove my love for that dish.

Vegan Comfort Food + Exotic Soy Gelato = One Happy Vegan

Here I am, back from a wonderful weekend in Detroit. Luckily I got there just in time to make it to the cider mill which is a Michigan tradition. Apple orchards across the state crank out hot batches of their own homemade spiced ciders and I assure you there is no better beverage on the planet. Now I’m back in L.A where it is 92 degrees today. Lame! Oh well, it hasn’t been that hot all summer so I guess one little heat wave in October won’t kill me.

Right before I took off on my trip, I had a little Pure Luck/Scoops excursion. There has been some discussion lately about Pure Luck’s decline, but I think they are as amazing as ever! (Excuse the crappy photos–my camera is broken so I have to resort to my friend’s iPhones.)

We started the meal off right with an order of pickle chips. The only way to make a near perfect food like the pickle taste even better, is to fry it. These are self explanitorily delish.

Lately I haven’t been able to make myself order anything besides “Kristen’s Carnitas Wrap.” Juicy jackfruit and Pure Luck’s spot-on Caeser dressing knock off is a winning combo in my book. Add chewy sweet potato fries and magical tangy BBQ sauce to that equation and I am over the moon. (My order is the one at top).

My friend ordered rosemary fries, but alas, there was not a trace of rosemary to be found on the fries. They were good fries, it was just kind of a bummer that they didn’t come as advertised. Luckily the rest of our food was so good we were willing to overlook this omission.

I find it physically impossible to leave Pure Luck without being sucked into Scoops like Ahab getting sucked into Moby Dick’s giant whale mouth. This time around I ordered a scoop of Salty Chocolate and a scoop of Banana Oreo. T’was orgasmic as usual!

I HEART PL/SCOOPS!

Pure Luck and Scoops is the new Brangelina!

Went to Pure Luck with a sweet little gang of amigos including a couple fellow foodie friends: Kirby Von Scrumptious and Andrew. We looked like a sweet little gang of idiots though with the three of us snapping away when our orders arrived…

The food was tres bon! I had the tofu pesto sandwich with killer sweet potato fries. Both the pesto (awesomely chunky) and the bbq sauce were divine.

The only thing that was lacking was the tea. I am an iced tea connoisseur and the totally weak brew at Pure Luck was basically just brown water. But luckily I was too thrilled with my dinner to pay much attention to it anyway…

We finished the meal off with some gelato at Scoops. I had a mindblowing soy coconut flavor. Pure Luck and Scoops is shaping up to be my favorite summer combo!
